The year: 1994. From out of space comes a runaway planet, hurtling between the Earth and the Moon, unleashing cosmic destruction! Man's civilization is cast in ruin! Two thousand years later, Earth is reborn... A strange new world rises from the old: a world of savagery, super science, and sorcery. But one man bursts his bonds to fight for justice! With his companions Ookla the Mok and Princess Ariel, he pits his strength, his courage, and his fabulous Sunsword against the forces of evil. He is Thundarr, the Barbarian!

The other day I was watching an episode of Thundarr The Barbarian on television and it occurred to me that the basic setup for that cartoon is brilliant. It's a fantasy tale told in Earth's distant future. Current day and not-too-distant technologies still exist as ancient and confusing relics in a time of magic and low technology.

Among the humans and mutants of this future world is a new and unexplained race, the Mok. Are they aliens? The next step in evolution? Ookla, one of the show's main characters, travels around the countryside with two humans. Why?!

Like most 11-minute cartoons from the 80s, the animation is cheap, the voice acting is questionable, and the scripts show little regard for the intelligence of children. Regardless, as an adult I can appreciate a lot of the ideas that the show represents.

So, I designed a print based on my favorite character from the show. That's about it!
